West Coast Wizarding World

This weekend a group of Rethink-ers journeyed down the street to check out the technical rehearsals for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood.  Those of us that went had already been to the Wizarding Worlds in Universal Studios Orlando, but it is pretty great to not have to fly 3,000 miles to walk into this world.

When walking in we realized it really looks a lot like Hogsmeade in UIOA with some subtle differences.  For one, as you can see behind us in the photograph, Olivanders wand shop is on the opposite side of the street in this iteration of the land.  This actually works out in the park’s favor as now the attraction has two show rooms, and each one is larger than its Orlando predecessor.

I’ve waited a long time to have Butterbeer underneath the California sun.

I’ve waited a long time to have Butterbeer underneath the California sun.

As in Orlando, the star attraction of Hogsmeade, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, has a very convincing facade with some of the best forced perspective I've ever seen.  Also the new 4K 3D projection made for a very realistic experience in the projection dome sections of the ride.  A few differences in figure design and updated media animation really tightened up the flow of the attraction.  This is one of my favorite attractions and this version has quickly become, in my opinion, the best.

With the green California mountains in the background, from this perspective you might feel as if you truly are in the hills of Scotland.  This is a feature that cannot be seen in Orlando.

Ryman Arts

Rethink congratulates its fearless leader, President & CEO Scott Ault, on his election to the Ryman Arts board. He will join other such industry luminaries as Marty Sklar, Phil Hettema and Bob Rogers.

For those unfamiliar, Ryman Arts was founded in 1989 in honor of Disney Legend Herb Ryman to educate talented high school students in the visual arts and prepare them for creative careers, all at no cost to the students. Scott is honored to help Ryman Arts fulfill their mission.

The Walking Dead

Rethink would like to congratulate Sally Corporation on their new Walking Dead attraction, which they showcased at IAAPA 2015. They received heavy press coverage both before and after, including this fantastic look at the attraction from the Los Angeles Times. Rethink was honored to help out with the black & white sketches featured in that article, under Sally's creative direction. Congratulations again – we can't wait to ride it!

Rethink Celebrates with Cake

In honor of our newly announced 20th Century Fox World Dubai project, we celebrated with fancy cake and sparkling beverages. As one does. The announcement was the culmination of a great effort by our talented team, and it was nice to cap off an exciting day this way. It was pretty darn good cake.

Fox World Dubai Announcement

Yes, finally we are able to proudly announce that we will be designing a high end theme park experience using the amazing worlds of Alien, Planet of the Apes, Ice Age and many more 20th Century Fox franchises.  Fox World Dubai will be a fully immersive world where some of our favorite movies can exist and thrive.

It is a very exciting project, but if you don't believe us just check out the articles in these publications:

Rethink's Walk in the Park

Every year Rethink spends a day in a local theme park to participate in a park-wide scavenger hunt.  This year we took the team to Universal Studios Hollywood.  Afterwards, each team must create a presentation that shows what they did in the park and what they learned.  Of course, here at Rethink, a benchmarking experience is turned into an all out theatrical production from each team.
