Rethink visits Harry Potter

Over the New Year’s holiday, Rethinkers Josh Updike and Mark Andrew found themselves in London and paid a visit to the Making of Harry Potter experience at the Warner Brothers Studio Tour in Leavesden. This is Mark's trip report.

After a quick film covering the history of the Studio and the making of the Films, the screen rises to reveal the entry to the Great Hall.

Once inside the Great Hall, we get to see props and costumes from the films. While the filming set never had a physical roof on it, I kind of wish it was here in its full glory.

Dumbledore's office.

Hagrid's Hut. The detail and lighting here are wonderful.

There are very well done fire and smoke effects throughout. They work well even up close.

The door to the Chamber of Secrets is massive.

Diagon Alley is well preserved.  I wish it had some life to it, more in line with the Universal experience.

Effects and characters are plentiful in the Creature Shop. This Animatronic Valdemort moves when you push a button.

There are walls covered with design drawings, and cases full of the white study models. Here is the Whomping Willow white model.

he finale of the tour is the Massive Hogwarts model. You get to walk around it 360º, and the lighting shifts from day to night. It really is very impressive.

After the tour, we met up with Rethinker Mike Ross for a pint or two.
